The second-gen MG HS compact SUV is teased ahead of its global debut at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Sino-British marque MG is ready to unveil the second-generation MG HS at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. Ahead of its debut, the SAIC-owned automaker has revealed a new teaser for this upcoming compact SUV model.

Published via MG Motor UK’s official Instagram page, the shadow-draped MG HS appears to look similar to its Chinese counterpart, namely the third-gen Roewe RX5. This indicates that the new MG HS is a sister model to the said Chinese SUV, thus making it easier for us to speculate on its specs and details.

Teaser images of the new MG HS extracted from the short video teaser.

Still focusing on the visuals, we can partially see that the new MG HS gets a slightly different front face to set it apart from the Roewe RX5. On top of that, this new compact SUV also gets similar sharp LED headlights as we saw on the MG4 EV hatch, although the rear half of the car looks somewhat identical to its Chinese twin.

With the second-gen MG HS set to be based on the Roewe RX5, we can expect this upcoming compact SUV to arrive in both full-ICE and electrified powertrains, with the latter coming in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and fully-electric (EV) forms. Although no details were shed by the automaker, Autocar UK reported that MG is aiming for the MG HS PHEV to boast a segment-leading EV-only range, besides offering the best value-for-money pricing in the segment.

For reference, the third-gen Roewe RX5 is offered in both full ICE and PHEV powertrain options, with the former arriving with a 1.5-litre 4-cyl turbocharged petrol mill that is mated to a 7-speed DCT to output 188 HP. Meanwhile, the PHEV version, also known as the Roewe eRX5, uses SAIC’s 1.5-litre 4-cyl turbocharged Blue Core GS61 engine that is mated to a single electric motor to deliver a total system output of 241 HP and 570 NM.

The second-gen MG HS is slated to make its global debut at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed, which is poised to take place later in July 11, 2024. In the European market, the MG HS will go against the likes of other compact SUVs like the Volkswagen Tiguan, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Peugeot 3008, and many more.

Closer to home, MG Motor Malaysia currently offers two fully electric models in our market, namely the MG ZS and the MG4 EV hatch. With the new MG HS also featuring an all-electric variant, there’s a big chance that we might see them making their way into our market some time in the future.
