Officially launched, Chery Malaysia presents the 2023 Tiggo 8 Pro, one of two (Omoda 5), first models in a new era for the brand here.
A latest and an improved version, it is based on the Tiggo 8 Pro Max in China. The ‘Max’ suffix in the moniker is dropped in Malaysia for simplification.
Locally-assembled (CKD) in Kulim, Kedah (Inokom), Chery’s new D-Segment SUV is offered in a sole variant (Tiggo 8 Pro Premium), tagging at MYR 159,800.
Price (OTR, w/o insurance) includes a seven-year/150,000 KM vehicle warranty, a five-year free service, and a 10-year/1,000,000 KM engine warranty (first 3,000 units).
Two exterior colours. Dark Black and Khaki White.
Weighing in at 1,500 KG, the 2023 Tiggo 8 Pro stands at 4,722 MM long, 1,860 MM wide, 1,705 MM tall, and with a wheelbase spanning 2,710 MM.
Robustly premium, its exterior radiates both a business- and family-esque outlook, with smooth and clean contours all around.
A commanding presence, the front-end adorns a new ‘Galaxy’ grille with chromed-out, prism-inspired and star-studded inserts on the mesh.
Unique is the Chery insignia, embedded front and centre on the grille, illuminating together with the headlamps and tail lamps (welcome lights).
Balancing these elements is a stretched-out lower air-intake, and perfecting the whole layout are grey trimmings (grille-surround, lower-air-intake).
Smoothly done, its minimalist rear-end with clean-cut curves adds abundant to the whole premium appeal, as well as emphasising its stocky scale.
Featured is a simple roof-edge spoiler with an integrated T-shaped third brake lights and a Chery script in the middle of the tailgate.
Completing the outlook, the borderline protruding bumper comes with a neat-looking twin-exhaust-integrated black cladding with a grey diffuser.
Boxy and sharp, the head lamps are slightly inward-tilted and are linked with the grille’s frame, projecting a focused set of eyes.
Fitted are LED units with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL), featuring Intelligent High-beam Control Headlamp (IHC), sequential LED turning lights and welcome lights.
The tail lamps are framed in a full-width lightbar design, shaped very thin in the middle and widely-angular towards the wrapped-around edge.
Installed are full LED units, and like the front, they come with sequential LED turning lights and welcome lights.
The side mirrors are electronically-adjusted and -folded, complete with turn signals and Blind Spot Detection (BSD) indicators.
Equipped are ventilated disc brakes (front) and solid disc brakes (rear), accompanied by an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Autohold system.
Sportily designed, it rides on a set of 19-Inch multi-spoke silver-finished alloy rims, wrapped in Cooper Evolution CTT 235/55 R19 tyres.
The 2023 Tiggo 8 Pro has a modern and minimalist dashboard. Clean and airy with premium quality materials, such as silver and open pore wood-style trims.
Commanding the two-toned (black/brown) leather-wrapped dash is a curved twin-screen unit (24.6-Inch), and accentuating the mood is a multi-colour ambient lighting.
Inclusively, the cockpit is well designed with all the buttons purposefully arranged, driver-centric, user-friendly, and stealthily-embedded in the trim.

Luxuriously bolstered all around, the seven-seater’s interior (arrangement - three-row, 2-3-2) is upholstered in full leather (brown) with patterned stitching.

Second-row seats come with a 60:40 split-fold configuration and a centre armrest, while the third-row seats get a 50:50 split-fold configuration.
Courtesy of Chery’s TX1 platform, it offers plenty of interior mobility, thus front and rear occupants have no issues with space.

There are air-conditioning vents located in the second- and third-row of seats, with the latter getting a dedicated set of controls.
Installed is a setup of MacPherson independent suspension (front), and a longitudinal towing-arm independent suspension (rear).
It is comfortably spacious, safe and suitable for a daily driver. The ride quality is firm, agile and well-balanced, with a smooth engine power and transmission delivery.
