Fully-imported (CBU) from China, the Ora Good Cat is the first electric vehicle (EV) by Great Wall Motor (GWM) in Malaysia, introduced as part of its rebranding.
It is offered in two variants, the 400 Pro and the 500 Ultra, priced at MYR 139,800 and MYR 169,800 respectively. Prices are on-the-road, without insurance.
Each purchase is covered by a five-year, 150,000 km warranty, and an eight-year, 180,000 km drive battery warranty.
Packaged together are a complimentary portable charger and home charger, plus five slots of maintenance service (10,000 km intervals) with free labour charge.
Exterior colours are Coral Blue, Hamilton White, Sun Black for the single-tone selection, joined by Mars Red and Hamilton White schemes with the contrasting black roof.
Exclusive to the 500 Ultra are Verdant Green with a white roof, and Hazel Wood Beige with a brown roof.
The Ora Good Cat stands at 4,235 mm in length, 1,825 mm in width, 1,596 mm in height and with a wheelbase spanning 2,650 mm.
Exuding a very expressive and refreshing front look with a curvy overall appeal. The front bumper is totally closed off, decorated with only a slim lower active front grille intake.
Its rear exhibits a very distinctive and clean layout that is accentuated by a minimalistic yet prominent roof edge spoiler.
Headlamps are automatic intelligent LED units equipped with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL). They are rounded and very eye-like.
The tail lamps are also LED units featuring a light strip design, and are integrated into the rear windshield.
It is power adjusted and power folded with turn-indicators. The 500 Ultra variant adds on a memory function and blind spot-indicators.
Completing the outlook, it is equipped with a set of 18-inch five spoke silver alloy rims, wrapped in 215/50 R18 tires.
The Ora Good Cat has a suede textured dashboard. It exudes an airy vibe with a slit-like air-conditioning vent stretching across the lower section, while a large screen commands the top. Overall, it has a minimalist inspired style and the cockpit layout has an elegant and non-clustered design to ensure a better driving experience.
It gets a 7-inch digital multi-information display.
The seats are in synthetic leather, and they come in three colours. E.g., Single-tone Black, or Green with Grey and Beige with Brown (500 Ultra only).
Front and rear occupants have no issues with space as it has generous legroom and shoulder room. However, headroom is a little limited especially in the rear cabin.
It has practical little spaces like a centre console storage box, medium sized glove box, front seatback pockets, and front and rear door storage.
There are four cup holders. Two in the front centre console and two in the rear seat armrest.
It features four USB ports, two for front passenger, one for rear passenger, and one for dashcam. It also has one 12-V power outlet, and a wireless charger.
It gets 858-litres of boot space.
The Ora Good Cat gets a comprehensive suite of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) called the Ora Pilot which includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Intelligent Cruise Assistance (ICA), Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), Intelligent Turning, Automatic Emergency Braking + Intersection (AEBI), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Low Speed Emergency Braking (LSEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Centring Assist (LCA), Wisdom Dodge System (WDS), and Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA).
Whereas, the 500 Ultra adds on Auto Reversing System (ARA), Full-Auto Integrated Parking (FAIP), Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Rear Cross Traffic Braking (RCTB).
Passive safety includes Intelligent single speed pedal control system, 360-degree camera with 3D view of the car, automatic headlamps, rear parking sensors (4 spots - 400 Pro, 6 spots - 500 Ultra), front driver and passenger airbags, front side airbags, integrated curtain airbags, front passenger airbag switch, Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Traction Control System (TCS), Repair And Maintenance Information (RMI), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Traffic Sign Warning (TSW), Over Setting Speed Limit Alarm, Auto Speed Sensing Door Lock, ISOFIX, and seat belt indicators. There are five drive modes available, which are Normal, Sport, Eco, Eco+, and Auto.
It is equipped with a 10.25-inch audio touchscreen display with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
The Ora Pilot will make driving less fatigue and much safer in urban areas. Plus, with the other supporting systems, long-distance travels will be less of a burden for the driver as well as ensuring the safety of the occupants on board.
It has a 4-speaker setup in the 400 Pro, and a 6-speaker setup in the 500 Ultra. Plus, it features a volume function adjustable via vehicle speed.
Both variants of the Ora Good Cat harbours a single electric motor (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor), producing 105-kW/141 HP and 210 NM of torque.
Variant specific, the 400 Pro is powered by a 47.8-kWh Lithium-Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, while the 500 Ultra with a 63.1-kWh Ternary Lithium battery.
It has a Single Speed automatic transmission.
Power is sent to the front wheels.
It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and has a 152 km/h top speed.
Each variant comes with Type 2 AC and CCS2 DC chargers.
The 400 Pro takes about eight hours for a full AC charge at 6.6-kW, and from a zero to 80% state of charge (SoC) via DC fast charging at 60-kW takes about 46 minutes.
As for the 500 Ultra, it takes about 10 hours for a full AC charge at 6.6-kW, and from a zero to 80% state of charge (SoC) via DC fast charging at 60-kW takes about 60 minutes.
It has a driving range of up to 400 km for the 400 Pro variant and 500 km for the 500 Ultra (NEDC).
Standard kit includes Smart key and quick start system, auto air-conditioning with PM2.5 filter, steering wheel with switch control, audio system and switch control cluster, auto indoor defogging, auto headlamps, auto sensing wipers, electric folding side mirrors (memory function - 500 Ultra), 6-way power-adjustable driver seat (massage and memory function - 500 Ultra), panoramic sunroof, and tire repair kit.
Ride comfortability feels flexible and firm at the same time. The vehicle delivers a comfortable yet connected steering feel at all speeds. The overall drive has been tuned to provide complete stability and grip to the driver.
It has good sound insulation, with very good NVH aspects, the ride is quiet, refined and the road noise is mostly muted.
The GWM Ora Good Cat exudes a sleek and elegant outlook. Its smooth, curvy and seamless all-around body contours make it a very distinct looking EV.
